The Vision
Our children are valued members of the St. Paul’s family. Because we deeply treasure their presence, God-given gifts, and potential, we are planning a vibrant space where they can explore and grow in faith.
The Challenge
Originally constructed in 1958, the Jones Building underwent a major renovation of its upper floors in 2010. However, the basement has had only a paint refresh and minor improvements over the years.
Jones Basement is primarily used for 3rd–5th grade Sunday School classrooms. The current facilities prove challenging to keep children in this age group engaged and active. While 3rd–5th graders have not returned to pre-covid attendance, their Sunday School teachers have recently reported that children are arriving at their classes with friends in tow––ready to worship, learn, and play.
A brighter, newer, and more functional Jones Basement will demonstrate St. Paul’s commitment to our children, inspire the faithful volunteers who work with them, and grow the program to new levels of participation.
THE RESULTS
The Jones Basement will be transformed into an attractive, useable space not only for 3rd–5th grade Sunday School but for many other purposes, including:
Vacation Bible School
Fine Arts Academy
Wonderfully Made Workshop
St. Paul’s School
Fey y Esperanza
Rutabaga After-School Program
Seminary classes through Perkins School of Theology (Houston-Galveston)
Overnight mission groups like UM ARMY
The new space will accommodate three times its current capacity—up to 70 children in the Assembly Room and 17 children in each of four flexible classrooms.
“An improved space for gathering and learning will serve our children and inspire our dedicated teachers and volunteers.”

Timeline & cost
Construction will begin in August 2024, after this summer’s Vacation Bible School. The project will be completed in early 2025.
The project is expected to cost $2.2 million, which has been approved by St. Paul’s Trustees, Finance Committee, and Church Council. To date $2.1 million for the project has been committed by advance gifts and $100,000 remains to be raised to provide the space our children deserve and our faith demands.
